The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA), which operates as a chemical industry trade association, named MFG Chemical (Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA) as the recipient of its Safety Recognition Program.
Specific criteria for this recognition include active participation in the ChemStewards program; plant safety performance; the implementation of key safety programs; and compliance with safety requirements from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
“MFG has made safety the core value of the company, a value shared by all our employees,” says Paul Turgeon, president and CEO. “MFG is dedicated to improving environmental performance through optimizing resource use and significantly reducing the overall volume and hazardous characteristics of waste generated by manufacturing processes. We are happy to receive this industry recognition and will continue to invest in our plants and employees as we build on our strong safety and environmental performance.”
MFG says it has consistently been recognized for its plant safety record, having received numerous SOCMA awards for performance improvements in past years.
“SOCMA has a strong history of supporting member companies in pursuit of EHS&S excellence,” says Joe Welch, vice president of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability (EHS&S). “We are grateful for the committee’s recognition of our ongoing commitment to the safety of people working at our sites, as well as the communities in which we operate. It is great to see similar dedication by the other member companies that were also recognized. It is a testament to the prevalence of safety values across the chemical industry.”
The honor was formally awarded to MFG at the SOCMA Summit in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, earlier this fall.
