The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is commending the imminent passage of the bipartisan Congressional Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), as well as the commitment of U.S. House and Senate committees to advancing materials protection across the defense industry.
The legislation, which AMPP says is expected to receive final approval in the coming weeks, includes a significant increase in funding authorization for the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Corrosion Policy and Oversight (CPO). Funding has been increased to $7.1 million, an increase of roughly $4.5 million over the initially proposed levels.
“This funding increase underscores Congress’ recognition of the critical role that corrosion prevention plays in maintaining the safety, readiness, and longevity of defense assets,” says Kern Williams, manager of government relations at AMPP. “This is not just an investment in infrastructure; it’s an investment in national security.”
AMPP has partnered with the DoD’s CPO for more than two decades to advance its mission of reducing lifecycle costs, improving equipment availability, enhancing safety, and extending critical defense systems and infrastructure longevity. Corrosion impacts every aspect of the defense lifecycle, ranging from operational environments to aging equipment and facilities. The increased funding can expand the CPO’s capacity to address these challenges effectively.
At more than 1,800 pages, the NDAA includes wide-ranging provisions and funding opportunities relevant to AMPP members engaged in the DoD supply chain. The full text of the legislation and a formal announcement can be accessed on the House Armed Services Committee’s website.
Looking ahead, AMPP’s government relations team plans to remain actively engaged in efforts surrounding the FY26 NDAA to ensure continued advocacy for shared priorities and further alignment between the DoD and the materials performance industry.
