HMG Paints Ltd. (Manchester, United Kingdom), which describes itself as the largest independent U.K. paint manufacturer, is introducing Hydrosol as a new range of hybrid coatings for the metal fabrication marketplace.

According to the manufacturer, these innovative protective coatings bring together the superior performance of solvent-based paints and the environmental advantages of water-based products. In turn, this gives users the opportunity to reduce their volatile organic compounds (VOCs) without compromising in performance.

The first product to launch in this range is the Hydrosol QD Primer. As an alkyd-based, quick-drying primer, it is designed for peak versatility and efficiency, the manufacturer explains.

Features include outstanding adhesion, superior moisture resistance, and exceptional corrosion protection due to the incorporation of modified zinc phosphate. Ideal for use on suitably prepared structural steel, chassis, and steel fabrications, the primer can be applied effortlessly using either roller, airless, or conventional spray methods.

According to the company, early adopters of the Hydrosol QD Primer have already identified several benefits. These include increased coverage compared to competitor products and improved efficiency in application. A key reason for this, HMG Paints Ltd. explains, is the volume solids—which stands at 55%. Competitor equivalents are approximately 40%, according to the company.

“Our new Hydrosol QD Primer represents a significant advancement in protective coatings and is a testament to the work done by our research and development team to bring innovations to the market,” says Paddy Dyson, marketing manager. “This product not only meets the high-performance standards our customers expect from us, but also aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability. It is the first piece of the jigsaw in our Hydrosol brand, with a variety of exciting products set to join this range in the near future."

The second product to join the range will be the Hydrosol Compliant DTM, which is described as a direct-to-metal (DTM) paint that can be applied directly to bare or primed metal surfaces.

Being PG6/23 11 compliant, the product is ideal as a single coat primer finish for use on stillages, skips, containers, agricultural and construction vehicles, and machinery, according to the manufacturer. With lower VOCs in comparison to solvent-based equivalent products and available in a wide range of colors, this product is described as an ideal choice for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and refinishers.

All HMG Paints products, including the new Hydrosol range, are manufactured under the stringent quality control of an ISO 9001 management system in Manchester. The company says its dedication to quality and innovation is further affirmed by its Made in Britain accreditation.
