Paul N. Gardner USA (Columbia, Maryland, USA), a global distributor, producer, and designer of quality physical and inspection instruments for the paints and coatings industries, among others, recently introduced a new protective coatings field test kit.
According to the company, the Protective Coatings Field Test Kit by Byk provides a complete solution for evaluating environmental conditions prior to painting. It also allows users to measure the dry film thickness (DFT) of a coating after its application in accordance with the SSPC PA-2 standard, “Procedure for Determining Conformance to Dry Coating Thickness Requirements.”
The convenient field test kit includes a DFT gage, thermo-anemometer, moisture meter, and infrared (IR) thermometer, all housed in a sturdy carrying case. Features include:
1. byko-test Fe /NFe (3790), DFT gage
- The SSPC-specific mode allows for standardized measurement protocols and calibration routines
2. BYK a200 (0450), thermo-anemometer
- Measures air temperature, air velocity, and relative humidity;
- Can be used outdoors to calculate dew point to help determine appropriate painting conditions.
3. BYK t200 (0470), IR thermometer
- Non-contact temperature measurement can be used for indoor and outdoor surface applications;
- Laser-targeting feature precisely shows the location of a temperature measurement;
- Backlit display allows for use in poor lighting conditions.
4. BYK m200 (9109), moisture meter
- Verifies the moisture content and readiness for coating;
- Can be used to determine the correct drying/curing of raw materials;
- Works with most hygroscopic building materials, such as wood, plaster, masonry, gypsum, and concrete.
According to Gardco, the kit includes everything a user could need to properly evaluate environmental conditions prior to a coating application, along with its film thickness after.
