As the group looks to new horizons, energy transition company Spirit Energy (Staines-upon-Thames, United Kingdom) has appointed Scott McGinigal as director of technical services and HSES (health, safety, environmental, and security).
A leader in his field, McGinigal joins Spirit after previously working with national oil company CNOOC, where he held various leadership roles including vice president of major projects, vice president of business services, and general manager of technical services.
Scott joins Spirit Energy at a pivotal time for the company, as it transitions to the future of oil and gas while positioning itself for a net-zero future.
Last month, Spirit Energy—alongside majority shareholder Centrica Plc and Stadtwerke München GmbH—were granted a carbon storage license by the North Sea Transition Authority to repurpose its North and South Morecambe gas fields. To be known as the MNZ (Morecambe net zero) cluster, it will repurpose the depleting gas fields into a world-leading carbon storage facility, which can store one gigaton of emissions to provide a long-term decarbonization solution for carbon-intensive industries.
McGinigal’s new role will oversee multiple areas of the business including HSES, projects, wells, engineering, supply chain, and decommissioning, where Spirit says it is experiencing its busiest year to date. The company has several offshore campaigns working in P&A (plug and abandonment) and safe infrastructure removal.
“Spirit Energy is recognized for its inclusive and innovative culture, and the company is actively progressing its transition to net zero,” he says. “I am delighted to be joining a team with a proven track record in decommissioning substantial gas assets and a strategically significant and world-class carbon store in Morecambe.”
“Scott is a great addition to the Spirit Energy team and executive committee, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our business,” says CEO Neil McCulloch. “Scott possesses the leadership qualities we require to be an exemplar in the industry as we transition and move towards a net-zero future.”
