With a professed goal of leading the coatings industry in sustainability, Hempel (Lyngby, Denmark) has appointed Dorthe Scherling Nielsen as the company’s head of sustainability and government affairs.

“Hempel is on an exciting sustainability journey, not just internally but also externally,” says Katarina Lindström, group vice president and chief operating officer. “We want to do even more to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and work with governments, academia, and other organizations to set an ambitious sustainability agenda for the industry. Dorthe is the ideal person to lead this work.”

Nielsen has extensive related experience and has held leading positions at companies including Vestas, Nike, and Bestseller. In her new role, she will lead the development and implementation of Hempel’s global sustainability and government affairs agendas, with a primary focus on the value chain and a more proactive approach to government affairs.

“Coatings are essential to sustainability, as they extend the useful lifetime of structures, buildings, equipment,  and other assets, and reduce maintenance requirements,” Nielsen says. “This helps companies lower their carbon footprint. Hempel has a clear desire to make an even bigger difference, and I’m happy to be part of that work.”
