Held by the Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, the 2024 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo includes numerous marquee events for professionals throughout the corrosion control and protective coatings industries.

Many of these activities involve educational sessions and interactive networking opportunities.

This year, the association’s flagship annual event takes place March 3-7, 2024, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. During the show, live coverage of many of the week’s activities will be available through AMPP’s exclusive Show Daily, which can be viewed through the conference website at ace.ampp.org and below.

The 2024 show features a full slate of peer-reviewed symposia, workshops, networking events, technical meetings, and more. The event offers attendees the ability to learn best practices in corrosion and materials while staying informed on the latest industry trends—all while interacting with professional colleagues and potential business partners.

“There are just so many amazing AMPP members and volunteers that we collaborate with to create what I believe is a pretty fabulous offering of content,” said Gregory Muha, director of conferences, exhibits, and sponsorships. “It really makes it difficult for our guests to decide what they want to attend. They’ve got some difficult choices to make.”

From networking events to technology demonstrations on the exhibition floor, the association’s goal is for attendees to be able to find whatever they need to stay ahead of the curve in materials protection and performance.

Information, Knowledge, Best Practices

Registration for the AMPP Annual Conference + Expo includes access to a wide range of peer-reviewed symposia on topics such as:

  • Advanced protective coating technology;
  • Advances in materials for oil and gas production;
  • Corrosion control in the water and wastewater industry;
  • Stress cracking under thermal insulations;
  • Advancements in volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCIs);
  • Geothermal scaling and corrosion;
  • Environmentally assisted cracking (EAC);
  • In-line inspection (ILI) and other detection technologies;
  • Machine learning for corrosion management.

“It’s a valuable gathering of AMPP members at a neutral forum to really come together and share information, knowledge, and best practices,” Muha said. “The event provides opportunities for idea sharing and networking, product showcases, demonstrations, and anything that’s relevant to the industries that AMPP serves in the materials protection and performance space.”

Marquee events at AMPP’s 2024 conference and exposition—which will feature a keynote address (“The Impact of AI on the Workforce”) from internationally known physicist Dr. Michio Kaku—will include:

  • Hundreds of exhibits from global industry leaders;
  • Targeted professional development programs;
  • Practical workshops and hands-on coatings and cathodic protection (CP) experiences;
  • Networking events and an exclusive Career Fair;
  • Specialized programming targeted specifically to contractors;
  • Student poster sessions and special programming for young professionals.

AMPP Turns Eye to the Future

“I think it’s really exciting to see how AMPP has embraced the past while also having an eye toward the future,” Muha said. “The idea is to help really prepare that next generation of the workforce that's going to be critical to preserving and extending the lifespan of assets and infrastructure that most people take for granted, way too often.”

“Thanks to the efforts of AMPP members across the globe, we are able to provide this type of programming that really does contribute to a world built and protected with safe, reliable, and sustainable materials.”

Prospective attendees can browse through the schedule, available at the event web site or through the official mobile app, to learn more about the symposia and technical workshops available.

“This year, one big change is there will not be an on-site, printed final program,” Muha said. “Based on feedback we’ve had, collaboration with other business units, and thinking about sustainability-type initiatives that the organization has been undertaking, we’re going to have all of the program content and the same information within the conference app.”

“The minute we printed the final print program, it was outdated, and we couldn’t do anything about changing it,” Muha concluded. “The beauty of this is, if we get last-minute changes, we’re able to go into the app, change it on the fly, and it’s live right right then and there. The other thing is that it’s allowed us to sync up the app with the conference schedule on the website.”

From inspectors to contractors, and from experienced professionals to industry newcomers just starting out in the field, attendees can find everything they need to move their careers forward.
