The global corrosion control and protective coatings community submitted a record nomination total for the Materials Performance (MP) 2025 Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards program, for which we are pleased to announce a series of finalists.
The complete list of 2025 finalists can be accessed now at the awards web site.
Held every other year, the Corrosion Innovation Awards program provides a forum for Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) members and customers to showcase their corrosion mitigation technologies while receiving recognition for their innovative solutions.
Up to 10 winners will be selected in the coming weeks and honored in front of industry peers at the next AMPP Annual Conference + Expo, to be held from April 6-10, 2025. Winners will receive a trophy and be recognized in a ceremony on Monday, April 7, adjacent to the Exhibit Hall Grand Opening.
All winning innovations will also be highlighted in 2025 via MP’s print and digital platforms.
Nomination and Judging Criteria
To be considered a corrosion innovation, nominated projects must show the potential for a significant positive impact in corrosion control. Innovations can be related to coatings and linings, materials design, instrumentation, testing, modeling/risk assessment, cathodic protection, chemical treatment, or anything else that directly relates to corrosion prevention and mitigation.
For this cycle, award nominations were accepted from April 1 through September 30, 2024, from individuals, companies, organizations, and government agencies worldwide. There is no fee to submit a nomination, and the next nominating window (for the 2027 awards) will begin in April 2026.
In each cycle, the nomination form asks for a full description of each innovation, including the need for the innovation; the process used for developing and implementing the innovation; an evaluation of the results; and criteria used to determine its success. To be considered as a recent innovation, the technology must have been in some sort of development phase within the previous five years.
Each nomination is rated by a diverse panel of industry experts across numerous fields related to corrosion control. The panel grades each innovation using a numerical scoring system, with the highest-rated innovations ultimately receiving the awards. Further background information on the program and its criteria is available at the awards web site.
For 2025, AMPP members and other industry stakeholders nominated approximately 60 innovations, in total. Additional details are available by watching and/or listening to our podcast interview previewing the 2025 awards cycle and a ceremony video from the previous 2023 cycle.
