NACE International, SSPC Enter into Definitive Agreement to Combine

NACE International and SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to combine. This unified endeavor brings together two nonprofit professional associations who are global leaders in corrosion and coatings standards, training, and certification.

“This is an important and exciting step forward for everyone involved in the fields of corrosion and coatings,” says Sam Scaturro, president-elect of SSPC. “We’re bringing together the best of two strong organizations and providing our stakeholders with more value at a time when they need it.”

“SSPC and NACE have a long history of working cooperatively in areas where we share common goals and purpose,” adds Tim Bieri, president of NACE. “This combination helps advance the missions set by the leaders of both associations and positions us to provide the asset protection industry with a stronger workforce.”

The transaction is expected to close in October 2020, subject to the approval of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

NACE and SSPC have begun taking steps to integrate programs and operations and expect the transition to take place on January 1, 2021. Total integration of the organizations’ operations is expected to occur at some point beyond that date.

Bob Chalker, CEO of NACE International, will serve as the CEO of the new organization. The new organization will retain the staff and facilities of NACE’s headquarters in Houston, Texas, USA and SSPC’s headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, along with all staff and offices located throughout the United States and abroad.

Venable LLP and Dentons Cohen & Grigsby P.C. are acting as legal advisors to NACE and SSPC.
