The Adhesive Technologies division of Henkel (Düsseldorf, Germany) recently opened its new production facility for high-performing aerospace applications in Montornès del Vallès, Spain. According to Henkel, the facility will serve as the company’s European hub for the aerospace industry and enable it to serve its global customers as well.

At an approximate investment cost of 35 million euros (39,307,275 USD), Henkel’s new 14,000 m2 (150,694 f2) facility is expected to serve the global aerospace industry in several key areas, including light weighting, fuel efficiency, and automation. The facility features dedicated production, labs, offices, and warehouse capacities, and is ideally located to serve several production clusters of key aerospace industry customers.

Henkel’s new European aerospace solutions hub will be the first production building in Spain to meet the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) certification standard. This standard includes the use of renewable energies and smart technologies for equipment and infrastructure. In addition, the facility utilizes Industry 4.0 technology, which includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing, and cognitive computing.

“With the new high-tech facility, we significantly expand the capacities for our leading high-impact solutions that are specified on all major aircraft platforms and increase our capabilities to develop next-generation materials for future programs,” says Jan-Dirk Auris, executive vice president for Henkel Adhesive Technologies. “At the same time, we enlarge our global production and distribution network and enhance the proximity to our strong customer base in Europe.”
