Integrated subsea and offshore solution provider Unique Group (Saint Helier, Jersey) together with engineering, construction, and equipment rental company Innovo (Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA) have completed a multi-million-dollar decommissioning contract for global marine, oil, and gas contractor Saipem (San Donato Milanese, Italy) on a key offshore platform in the Middle East.
Team members with both providers worked together to meet the project’s requirements of supplying bespoke equipment, which helped reduce operating times and ensured cost effectiveness within a very tight delivery schedule, according to companies.
“This project exemplifies [both organizations’] capabilities in the decommissioning arena, where close collaboration, innovative engineering, tight project management, and safe operations are paramount,” says Stefano Malagodi, managing director of Innovo.
Using specialist knowledge, team members helped with the design, manufacturing, and delivery of the equipment. The fast and efficient turnaround of less than four months allowed the contractor to meet the operator’s deadline to launch operations, with initial steps completed safely and ahead of schedule.
Internal and external dredging tools, diamond wire cutting tools, and internal cutting tools based on abrasive waterjetting technology, operating at 1,500 bar (21,755.7 psi), were provided for the project. Skilled operators were utilized to support the operation.
“We are very pleased to have completed this project within the stipulated timeline, which helped the team considerably,” says Rakesh Bangera, division manager at Unique Group. “Our aim is to be a trusted partner for our clients right from the design stage up until the delivery, so that all the requirements are duly met. The emphasis on providing innovative solutions has always been of utmost importance to us.”
