The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced that Rex C. Donahey, PhD, will serve as the Institute’s inaugural director of innovative concrete technology. In this newly created position, Donahey will be responsible for actively providing outreach to trade organizations, companies, and individuals to attract emerging technologies for development within ACI.
Donahey will continue to serve as Editor-in-Chief of ACI’s monthly magazine, Concrete International, until his successor is named. In this role and in previous positions as a faculty member, structural engineer, and director of research and development for an industry supplier, Donahey has developed a strong understanding of the needs of contractors, designers, and suppliers.
Donahey earned his PhD in civil engineering from the University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas, USA). A lifelong learner, he has also earned certificates in online courses covering design, deep learning, strategy, disruptive technology, and user experience for augmented reality applications.
“I’m pleased and excited that Rex will be taking on this new role,” says Ronald G. Burg, executive vice president at ACI. “The future well-being of the Institute depends on accommodating innovation, and not being limited to existing technology and practices. ACI needs to be recognized as the professional organization of choice for developing new and emerging technologies. Adding a director of innovative concrete technology to the ACI staff is essential to this effort and will keep ACI always advancing.”
