The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), a new professional association for the corrosion control and protective coatings community, has joined the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Network of Experts Program. This program is designed to provide the FDA with rapid access to scientific, engineering, and medical expertise when it is needed to supplement existing knowledge within the FDA.
“AMPP is proud to be participating in the FDA’s Network of Experts,” says Bob Chalker, CEO of AMPP. “Corrosion of medical devices is a highly specialized discipline, and among our membership are some of the world’s leading experts in the field. Our members are happy for this opportunity to support the medical community by sharing knowledge that can support the mission of the FDA.”
The FDA’s Network of Experts program is designed as a tool for quickly and efficiently gathering external expertise. Partner organizations like AMPP—with its extensive member network of scientists, researchers, engineers, educators, and technicians—are prepared on short notice to identify member experts to engage with FDA employees and share insight and experience.
“FDA staff is interested in the relationship between corrosion science and medical technology,” says Amir Eliezer, an AMPP board member and director of the Corrosion Research Center, Nano-Bio & Advanced Materials at Shamoon College of Engineering (Ashdod, Israel). “After presenting on this topic for the FDA last year, it was clear the Network of Experts would benefit from access to AMPP’s many member experts. I’m pleased to work with my professional peers to support this effort.”
