MOBILTEX
(Calgary, Alberta, Canada), a leading provider of innovative Industrial
Internet of Things (IIoT) hardware and software for cathodic protection (CP)
and pipeline integrity remote monitoring, announced its move to a new
state-of-the-art headquarters within Phase 2 of the Airport Crossing Industrial
Park in Calgary.
Fueled by the company’s steady
growth over the last decade, MOBILTEX’s newly constructed 18,500-square-foot
(1,718.7 m2) facility will accommodate leading-edge manufacturing
technologies and lean process flows. This will result in increased efficiency,
healthier margins and an enhanced overall customer experience.
The build-out of the new
facility is designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) specifications, with all aspects of the facility promoting energy
efficiency. Ergonomic design throughout the building will further enhance
employee productivity and job satisfaction.
“The primary driver for the move
was two-fold: due to continued growth we simply needed to increase service and
support, manufacturing and warehouse space, as well as office space for our
expanding engineering and administrative teams,” explains Tony da Costa, vice
president of engineering for MOBILTEX. “This facility is considerably larger
than our current space, allowing us to expand and optimize in many exciting
ways.”
The unique design on the
manufacturing side of the facility enables MOBILTEX to reconfigure the
production areas as required based on demand. “We can implement much more
efficient lean processes across our entire portfolio of products,” says da
Costa. “This significantly optimizes workflow and increases productivity and
efficiency.”
The new space will also deploy
10 large networked displays for communicating lean process status throughout
the building, further increasing efficiency and improving information
transparency.
During this transition, MOBILTEX
will also be installing a new surface mount line for populating circuit boards.
“With the expanded square footage, MOBILTEX is able to implement a
state-of-the-art surface mount line,” says da Costa. “Many other manufacturers
will outsource this process, often times it is done offshore. Building in-house
is a huge benefit in terms of quality but also provides supply chain security
to our clients within critical infrastructure industries, allowing us to
continue to deliver in any global or economic condition.”
“We are extremely proud and
excited to be moving into our new headquarters in the very near future,” says
Marc Bracken, CEO of MOBILTEX. “The larger, modern facility will allow us to
more efficiently deliver product to our customers worldwide but also enhances
the development of the next generation of innovative solutions, enables our
world-class customer service and support teams, and provides an improved work
environment to our employees.”
The Calgary-based MOBILTEX
workforce will be calling the new facility home, allowing for engineering,
service and support, manufacturing and administration operation teams to all
work more cohesively. Substantial completion of the build-out is set for mid-December
2020, and the scheduled move-in date is targeted for January 2021. Open house
events will be announced closer to the move-in date.
