Professional services company KBR (Houston, Texas, USA) has signed a specialist support agreement with FIMS International (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) for cathodic protection (CP) system design, detail engineering, material procurement, installation, and commissioning for a newly constructed pipeline.

FIMS International describes itself as a specialized company providing CP survey design and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services. These services include impressed current CP (ICCP) and sacrificial anode CP (SACP) for utilities such as plant underground structures; offshore structures; pipelines; internal and external tanks; well casings; concrete; internal protection of process vessels; monitoring; and maintenance.

“This agreement demonstrates FIMS International's look-ahead relationship with KBR and strengthens our expertise,” says Mukesh Khatri, a NACE Cathodic Protection Specialist with FIMS.

Khatri adds that the delivery of the CP system survey and design includes “evaluation to verify the possibility of accommodating new structures in existing systems in operation,” all while making it economic to install and commission projects worldwide. “It comes at these unprecedented times, reflecting our selective approach and the importance of being involved at a very early stage of any development,” he concludes.

By utilizing advanced software in design and project management, FIMS International says it is able to share extensive expertise and knowledge with the client as it determines the necessary pipeline protection levels to maintain integrity for an indefinite period of time.

FIMS is working with KBR to complete the remaining planned project work by the fall of 2020.
