Elcometer Technical Manager Appointed to NACE Standards Board

David BarnesFollowing the organization’s recent formation of a new Standards Board, NACE International has appointed David Barnes as the board’s vice chair.

Barnes, who serves as technical manager at Elcometer (Manchester, United Kingdom), was elected due to his proven leadership role within Elcometer along with his familiarity with NACE International and its technical committees.

Barnes has worked as technical manager for over nine years, where he has worked closely with NACE and many other industry organizations on standardization, writing, and presenting technical papers.

In addition to his role as Elcometer’s liaison to international standards organizations, Barnes leads his company’s global technical support and training department. In that role, he provides training to distributors and customers about an extensive range of abrasive blast equipment, nondestructive testing equipment, and inspection equipment for the coatings industry.

“It is an honor to be elected to become the first vice chair of this newly formed board, and I look forward to helping improve the development of standards within the organization,” Barnes says.

Barnes will serve a three-year term as vice chair, followed by a further three years as chair. His term as vice chair is scheduled to begin on June 20, 2020.

Playing a vital role in providing oversight and management of the NACE standards program, his role as vice chair will include developing strategies, objectives, and tactics to allow the program to better respond to the standardization needs of the corrosion industry.

Barnes will also overlook the performance of board activities, including global growth in the standards portfolio and being responsive to the industry’s standardization needs.

“David’s many years of experience and involvement in the industry will be a tremendous benefit to NACE,” says Michael Sellars, managing director of Elcometer. “We are very pleased to hear about David’s appointment and look forward to continuing the mutually beneficial relationship Elcometer has with NACE.”
