PPG Makes Multimillion Investment in R&T Center

PPG (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) has completed a $15.5 million investment in its aerospace research and technology (R&T) center in Burbank, California, USA.

With this investment, the R&T center received an expansion of its climate-controlled laboratory and testing space, as well as upgrades to on-site aerospace sealant and coatings equipment. In addition, the 39, 524-ft2 (3,672-m2) facility sports an open-floor plan with dedicated areas to promote collaboration amongst various manufacturing, customer service, and administrate departments.

“PPG continues to improve its R&T capabilities to provide new, innovative products and services to our customers in commercial, regional, military and general aviation,” says Mehran Arbab, global director for PPG’s aerospace coatings and sealants segment. “The enhancements to the Burbank facility strengthen PPG’s overall position as a reliable and innovative partner for our aerospace customers globally.”

PPG’s aerospace R&T facility in Burbank is a leading manufacturer of coatings, sealants, transparencies, packaging and application systems, and transparent armor, as well as chemical management and other services. PPG Aerospace, the company’s aerospace products and service business, is the world's largest supplier of aircraft windshields, windows and canopies. Industries served by PPG Aerospace include airframe manufacturers, airlines, and maintenance providers for global commercial, military, and general aviation industries.

The company held a grand opening ceremony for its R&T center on December 13.
