Coating Alliance Extended to Include Marine, Protective Sectors

Global marine coatings leader Jotun (Sandefjord, Norway) and coating suppier Kansai Paint (Osaka, Japan) have signed an agreement to develop their existing alliance.

Through the agreement, the partners say they are aiming to emulate the success they previously achieved in the marine segment in the protective market.

The two companies initially formed the SeaStar Alliance in 2002. At that point, they had already worked together for many years, and the alliance was a logical next step, they explain.

The partnership led to the development of antifouling brands, such as SeaQuantum, which is now a world leader in antifouling based on Silyl technology. More than 10,000 vessels have received SeaQuantum applications, providing fouling protection and hull performance for up to 90 months.

The alliance between both companies enables the widest coverage of the global market, and the plans are to work towards more innovations, solutions, and services together.

“A collaborative approach to marine has paid huge dividends, sharing knowledge and using one another’s innovation and industry expertise to access opportunities and build a product portfolio of unparalleled quality,” Jotun says in a press release.

The movement forward will leverage technology, segment understanding, and global networks to provide protective solutions that safeguard assets and optimize performance.
