Integrated industrial water management group U.S. Water (St. Michael, Minnesota, USA), an ALLETE (Duluth, Minnesota, USA) company, announced that two of its sites were recognized for excellence in workplace safety and health.

The group’s facilities in Cambridge, Minnesota, USA, and Plymouth, Minnesota, USA, were honored for operating safe workplaces during the recent 2017 Governor’s Safety Awards luncheon. The company is one of 279 employers to be honored through the awards program, coordinated by the nonprofit Minnesota Safety Council (St. Paul, Minnesota, USA).

Donald Brozek and Mike Bock, Cambridge facility production shift leads, and production manager Peter Betts accepted the two awards on behalf of the company.

“We are very proud of the achievements of our Cambridge and Plymouth facilities and their diligence in the pursuit of an injury free workplace,” says Kevin Kitchen, the group’s environmental, health, and safety manager. “Both facilities continue to lead by example to exemplify [our] safety culture.”

Applicants for the Governor’s Safety Awards are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with their industry’s national statistics, and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program. The Cambridge facility received one of 59 awards for Outstanding Achievement, with rates 51-90% better than the industry average, according to the state.

Meanwhile, the Plymouth facility received one of 182 awards for Meritorious, with rates that have shown to be better than the industry average for at least three years.
